Quadratic Equations
I. x2 – 11x + 24 = 0 Pairs = -8, -3 And now dividing by a and by changing the sign we get, x = 8, 3 II. 2y2 – 9y + 9 = 0 Pairs = -6, -3 And now dividing by a and by changing the sign we get, y = 3, 1.5 ∴ x ≥ y Alternate Method: if signs of quadratic equation is -ve and +ve respectively then the roots of equation will be +ve and +ve. So, roots of first equation = x = 8, 3 So, roots of second equation = y = 3, 1.5 After comparing roots of quadratice eqution we can conclude that x ≥ y.
