SSC GD Constable 2021 · Question 163 of 377

The length, breadth and height of a box are in the ratio 4 : 3 : 2. If the length is increased by 50% and the height is decreased by 40%, then the ratio of the new volume to the old volume of the box will be:

percentage

  1. A3 : 2
  2. B1 : 3
  3. C11 : 8
  4. D9 : 10Correct

Answer: D. 9 : 10

Explanation

Given: The length, breadth and height of a box are in the ratio 4 : 3 : 2. Length increased = 50% Height decreased = 40% Concept used: Volume of a cuboid = L × B × H Here, L =Length B = Breadth H = Height Calculation: Let the length, breadth and height of the box 4x, 3x and 2x Now, New length = 4x × 150% ⇒ 6x New height = 2x × 60% ⇒ 1.2x Now, Ratio of new volume and old volume = 4x × 3x × 2x : 6x × 3x × 1.2x ⇒ 3.6 : 4 ⇒ 9 : 10 ∴ T he ratio of the new volume to the old volume of the box will be 9 : 10.
