time-speed-distance

  1. A15 14 km
  2. B8 58 km Correct
  3. C15 34 km
  4. D17 34 km

Answer: B. 8 58 km

Explanation

Given: A person walked from a village to a hospital at a speed of 30 km/h and walked back at a speed of 2 km/h . Total time taken = 4 h 36 min Concept used: Time = Distance/Speed Calculation: Let the distance travelled by him be x km According to the question, (x/30) + (x/2) = 4 h 36 min or 23/5 hours ⇒ [ (x + 15x)/30] = 23/5 ⇒ [ (16x)/30] = 23/5 ⇒ [ (16x)/6] = 23 ⇒ x = 23 × 6/16 ⇒ x = 138/16 ⇒ x = 8 58 So, distance = 8 58 km ∴ The distance of the hospital from the village 8 58 km.
