SSC CHSL 2020 · Question 54 of 91

A solid metallic hemisphere of radius 6.3 cm is melted and recast into a right circular cylinder of radius 9 cm. What is the height (in cm, correct to one decimal place) of the cylinder?

Quantitative Aptitude

  1. A1.9
  2. B2.1Correct
  3. C2.7
  4. D2.5

Answer: B. 2.1

Explanation

Given: Radius of hemisphere = 6.3 cm Radius of cylinder = 9 cm Formula: Volume of hemisphere = 2/3 × πr 3 Volume of cylinder = πr 2h Calculation: Volume of hemisphere = 2/3 × π × (6.3) 3 Volume of cylinder = πh × (9) 2 Then, ⇒ 2π/3 × 6.3 3= πh × 9 2 ⇒ h = 2.058 ⇒ h = 2.1 cm(nearest value) ∴ Height of cylinder is 2.1cm
