Calcium oxide is an ionic compound with the formula CaO. Also known as burnt lime it exists as white crystalline solid at room temperature. It is obtained by thermal decomposition of Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3). It is widely used in the manufacturing of cement, paper, and steel. it is also used in the water treatment plant as an acidity control agent.
