The board of Chandrabhaga Urban Bank has resolved that no application shall in future be outsourced to a supplier whose software process has not been assessed against a recognised framework. The framework put before the board describes an ordered set of ve stages through which the software process of an organisation is said to evolve: from one at which the process is ad hoc and success depends upon individuals, through stages at which basic project management is established, at which a standard process is documented across the organisation, and at which the process and the product are quantitatively measured and controlled, to one at which the organisation improves the process continuously from that measurement. The framework so described is the Capability Maturity Model, which is correctly characterised as:
