ibps-so 2016 · Question 24 of 394

A trainee at Chandrabhaga Urban Bank has been given a worksheet showing how the name of the bank's internet-banking server is resolved into the numeric address that the routers actually use. The worksheet shows the name being handed to a resolver, the resolver returning a numeric address, and that address being written in the ordinary human-readable notation of the present IPv4 network, in which the address is broken into its constituent octets, each octet written as a decimal number between 0 and 255, and the octets set apart from one another by a punctuation mark. The trainee must state how many such separators the written address carries. In the dotted-decimal notation of such an address, the number of periods separating its parts is:

  1. AThree, the address being made of four octets separated by three periodsCorrect
  2. BOne, the address being made of a network part and a host part separated by a single period
  3. CTwo, the address being made of three parts separated by two periods
  4. DFour, one period standing after each of the four octets
  5. EFive, four separating the octets and one closing the address

Answer: A. Three, the address being made of four octets separated by three periods
