A and B together can complete a work in 12 days. A alone can complete the work in 20 days. If the total wages obtained by A and B together is Rs.5000, then find the wages obtained by A alone.

Answer: A. a) Rs.3000

1/A + 1/B = 1/12; 1/20 + 1/B = 1/12; 1/B = 1/30. Ratio of efficiency of A and B = 1/20 : 1/30 = 3:2. Wages obtained by A = 5000 × 3/5 = Rs.3000.
