In the following question, two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and give answer: I. (x – 13)² = 0 II. y² = 169

Answer: B. x ≥ y

Explanation

Equation I. (x – 13)² = 0 ⇒ x – 13 = 0 ⇒ x = 13. Equation II. y² = 169 ⇒ y = √169 ⇒ y = 13 or –13. x = 13, y = 13 gives x = y; x = 13, y = –13 gives x > y. ∴ x ≥ y.
