SSC MTS & Havaldar 2024 · Question 2 of 76

A thief saw a policeman, and he started running at a speed of 18 m/s. After 12 seconds, the policeman started chasing the thief at a certain speed. If the policeman covered a distance of 864 metres distance to catch the thief, then the speed (in m/s) of the policeman is:

  1. A28
  2. B15
  3. C30
  4. D24Correct

Answer: D. 24

Explanation

Distance covered by thief = 864 m So, time taken by thief = 864 18 = 48 s ∴ Time taken by policeman = 48 – 12 = 36 s ∴ Speed of policeman = 864 36 = 24 m/s
