SSC MTS & Havaldar 2011 · Question 40 of 74

Ratio between the monthly income of A and B is 9 : 8 and the ratio between their expenditures is 8 : 7. If they save Rs. 500 each, find A’s monthly income.

  1. ARs.3,500
  2. BRs.4,000
  3. CRs.4,500Correct
  4. DRs.5,000

Answer: C. Rs.4,500

Explanation

Let monthly income of A = Rs. 9x and B = Rs. 8x Similarly, expenditure of A = Rs. 8y and expenditure of B = Rs. 7y => Savings = 9x − 8y = 500------- (i) and 8x − 7y = 500--------- (ii) Solving above equations, we get : x = 500 ∴ A's monthly income = 9 × 500 = Rs. 4, 500
