SSC GD Constable 2021 · Question 156 of 377

Two trains starting at the same time from two stations 300 km apart and going in opposite directions cross each other at a distance of 180 km from one of the stations. What is the ratio of their speeds?

ratio-proportion

  1. A4 ∶ 3
  2. B3 ∶ 2Correct
  3. C3 ∶ 4
  4. D2 ∶ 3

Answer: B. 3 ∶ 2

Explanation

Given: Distance between two station = 300 km They meet each other at 180 km from one station Concept Used: Speed = Distance/Time Calculation: Distance travelled by the faster train = 180 km Distance travelled by the slower train = 300 – 180 = 120 km Now 180/S 1= 120/S 2 ⇒ S 2 /S 1 = 120/180 ⇒ S 2 / S 1 = 2/3 So, speed ratio of two trains = 3 : 2 ∴ Ratio of their speed is 3 : 2.
