Given: (a + b) = 16 a³ + b³ = 1456 Concept used: Use the formula a³ + b³ = (a+b)(a2 + b2 - ab) (a + b)2 = a2 + b2 + 2ab Calculation: Solving for ab : ⇒ (a + b)2 = a2 + b2 + 2ab ⇒ 162 = a2 + b2 + 2ab ⇒ a2 + b2 = 162 - 2ab Now, ⇒ a³ + b³ = (a+b)(a2 + b2 - ab ) ⇒ 1456 = 16(162 - 2ab - ab ) ⇒ 1456/16 = (256 - 3ab ) ⇒ 91 = (256 - 3ab ) ⇒ 3ab = 256 - 91 ⇒ ab = 165/3 = 55 Hence, the value of ab is 55.
