SSC CHSL 2022 · Question 49 of 92

In a school there are total 414 students. The ratio of boys and girls is 5 ∶ 4. If 46 more boys gets admitted into the school, then what will be the new ratio of boys and girls?

Ratio and Proportion

  1. A3 ∶ 1
  2. B4 ∶ 3
  3. C5 ∶ 2
  4. D3 ∶ 2Correct

Answer: D. 3 ∶ 2

Explanation

Given: Total students = 414 Ratio of boys to girls = 5:4 Number of boys admitted = 46 Concept Used: The new ratio is determined by the increased number of boys and the unchanged number of girls. Calculation: Total parts = 5 + 4 = 9 Boys initially = 5/9 × 414 = 230 Girls = 414 - 230 = 184 New total boys = 230 + 46 = 276 New ratio of boys to girls = 276:184 = 3:2 Hence, the new ratio of boys to girls is 3:2.
