Pitt’s India act of 1784 created a new body named the Board of control which manages the political affairs. Commercial affairs were managed by the Court of Directors. By this act, the British government was given supreme control over the company's affairs and its administration in India. The governor general council's strength was reduced to 3 members. One of the 3 would be Commander in chief of the British Crown's army in India. The Governor-General was given the right of veto. The Presidencies of Madras and Bombay became subordinate to the Bengal presidency Calcutta became the capital of British India till 1911.
