When the indirect speech is in an assertive form, we follow the steps given below: Connectors 'whether/why' or 'if' are replaced by the comma and inverted commas. The tense of reported speech is changed only when the reporting verb is in the past tense . Change the reported speechfrom assertive to interrogative . The personal pronouns will be changed according to the subject and object of the reporting verb. Here the 1st person 'I' will change into the 2nd person 'you' as per the object. Past perfect tense (had watched ) in indirect speech changes to Past simple in direct speech ( Did you watch ). Words showing time and place are changed accordingly. (the previous night-last night) At last line up the remaining part. Following these steps, we finally get- Kirti asked me, “Did you watch the movie on television last night ?”
