The given example for conversion is ‘Who did this?”. The given example is simple past tense. The subject in the given question is who, the verb is ‘did’ and the object is ‘this’. When we convert, the subject will become the object and as it is a question, the object has to be placed at the beginning itself and before the subject, we must use the connector ‘by’. So, it must be ‘By whom’. Since the question is in the past tense, we must 307 SOLVED PAPER (5th March 2017: Shift-1) use the be verb ‘was’. After that we have to place the subject ‘this’ and the verb did must be converted into past participle form and the past participle form is ‘done’. So, the answer is ‘By whom was this done?’.
