RRB Junior Engineer / DMS / CMA 2019 · Question 3713 of 3719
Concept: Projectile: A body that is in flight through the atmosphere under the effect of gravityalone and is not being propelled by any fuel is called projectile . Example : (i) A bomb released from an aeroplane in level flight (ii) A bullet fired from a gun EXPLANATION: The velocity of the particle can be resolved into two mutually perpendicular components . Horizontal component and a vertical component . In projectile motion, the horizontal component of velocity (u cosθ ) , acceleration (g) and mechanical energyremain a constant because the force of gravity does not affect the horizontal component of motion . Thus option 3 is correct. Speed , velocity , the vertical component of velocity (u sinθ) , momentum , kinetic energy and potential energy all change because of the force acting in the vertical direction which is its weight (mg). Velocity and KE are maximum at the point of projection while minimum (but not zero) at the highest point . So, at the highest point in projectile motion, the kinetic energy is minimum .
