RBI Assistant 2016 · Question 67 of 96

Directions (71-80): Read the following passage and answer the following questions. Once upon a time, a merchant's son was passing through a forest when, all of a sudden, robbers attacked him, looted his belongings, and beat him up. He lay unconscious on the forest path, and a little later, a priest passed by. He saw the injured man lying on the ground. He was immediately reminded of the robbers and was afraid that they might attack him also. So, he hastily moved on. After some time, an attendant of the temple passed that way. He was a religious man and a true follower of God. He stopped for a moment and said, 'This poor man needs help. I must help him.' He sprinkled some water on the injured man's face. The injured man regained his senses. The attendant gave him some water to drink, which refreshed him. He said, 'Now you are safe. I will take you to my house and look after you.' He helped the man to get up and took him to his house. His wife and he nursed the injured man till he was well again. The merchant's son was profusely thankful to the couple for saving his life. 'Let me take you to my father. He will be very happy to meet and reward the couple who saved my life.' He said. But the couple refused saying that they did not want any reward for their services. The merchant's son was surprised. 'Why don't you want the reward? I am sure my father will give you enough money in return for this act of kindness.' The couple said, 'God has given us enough. We need nothing more. We helped you because we felt it was our duty.' Even so, the merchant's son insisted on taking them to his house. His father was very happy to see his son alive and was full of gratitude towards the couple. He offered them 100 gold coins as a reward, but the couple refused to accept it. The merchant was surprised. He said, 'Why don't you accept the gold coins? They will make you rich.' The couple explained, 'We helped your son because it was our duty and we do not want any reward for doing our duty.' Even then the merchant insisted. But the couple refused the reward. The merchant's son said, 'Sir, we consider it a blessing to be able to help a person in need. Please do not embarrass us by offering a reward.' The merchant gave up and said, 'I have learnt a great lesson today. Helping a person in need is one's duty, and one should not expect any reward for it.' Q71. What did the merchant's son say to the couple when they refused to accept the gold coins?
