MPSC State Service 2020 · CSAT · Question 58 of 77

Read the following conversation carefully and using this as evidence, select the option that serves as a conclusion pointing to the disagreement between treasure hunter and archaeologist. Treasure Hunter: In general, archaeological artefacts found on public property cannot legally be privately owned. Centuries-odd maritime law allows persons who risk their lives attempting to rescue a sunken ship are permitted to keep whatever cargo they can salvage. Under this rule treasure hunters clearly are entitled to keep the cargo from ancient shipwrecks that they risk their lives to save from becoming extinct in salty ocean waters. Archaeologist: Not so. These shipwrecks have stabilized over the centuries they have lain underwater. The only danger they are in is from greedy treasure hunters who destroy valuable archaeological evidence in their hurry to loot artefacts for making high profits.

Logical Reasoning

  1. AWhether maritime law can be ever applied to a ship that has already sunk.
  2. BWhether is it legitimate to call antique shipwreck in public waters as private property.
  3. CWhether a treasure hunters risk their life when they salvage shipwreck.
  4. DIn what sense, if any, an ancient shipwreck can be said to be in verge of extinction.Correct

Answer: D. In what sense, if any, an ancient shipwreck can be said to be in verge of extinction.

Explanation

The archaeologist denies the salvage-law claim, so the conclusion pointing to their disagreement is option (b).
