The applications that were turned down at two of the branches have been called for by the regional manager for a separate scrutiny. What is the ratio of the number of applications not sanctioned by Branch M₃ to the number of applications not sanctioned by Branch M₅? (A) 8 : 9 (B) 10 : 9 (C) 11 : 12 (D) 7 : 8 (E) 9 : 10 Directions (Q6–Q10) : The six sentences printed below are taken from a short account of the origins of double-entry bookkeeping, the very system upon which the ledgers of every bank rest, but they have been set down in a disordered sequence. The six sentences given below, labelled (A) to (F), form a coherent paragraph when they are arranged in the proper order. Rearrange them and then answer the questions that follow, bearing in mind that the paragraph has one order only in which it reads coherently.

1. AIts central device is simple to the point of banality: every transaction is entered twice, once as a debit and once as a credit.
2. BAn error of arithmetic thereupon announces itself at once, since the two sides of the ledger will no longer agree.
3. CDouble-entry bookkeeping was invented by no one person; it emerged among the merchants of the Italian city states, who needed some way of keeping account of ventures shared among several partners.
4. DIt is for this reason that a technique four centuries old survives, in substance unaltered, in the accounting software of the present day.
5. EMore important still, the method makes it possible to say at any moment what a business is worth, and not merely what cash it happens to hold. (F) The banality is deceptive, for the double entry turns a bare list of payments into a system that can be checked against itself.Correct
