  5. EEight Directions (Q6–Q10) : Nine candidates who had been called for the document veri cation stage of a recruitment held by a bank were made to occupy a single row of nine chairs in the waiting hall of the regional o ce, and the register kept by the attendant at the door records their places and the way in which each of them was turned, as follows. Study the following information with care and then answer the questions that follow. Nine persons – Abhilasha, Chintamani, Elangovan, Firdausi, Gyanwati, Nishikant, Rukmangad, Tarachandra and Zubeida – are seated in a single straight row at equal distances from one another. The row runs from the west to the east, the westernmost chair being reckoned as the rst chair of the row and the easternmost as the ninth. Five of the nine face towards the north and the remaining four face towards the south. It follows that for a person who faces towards the north the right hand points towards the east of the row and the left hand towards the west of it, whereas for a person who faces towards the south the right hand points towards the west of the row and the left hand towards the east of it. (i) Abhilasha and Zubeida occupy the two extreme ends of the row, Abhilasha sitting at the western end of it and Zubeida at the eastern end. (ii) Abhilasha faces towards the south and Zubeida faces towards the north. (iii) Chintamani sits second to the west of Firdausi. (iv) Exactly ve of the persons sit between Chintamani and Tarachandra. (v) Elangovan is an immediate neighbour of Chintamani and is also an immediate neighbour of Firdausi. (vi) Gyanwati sits immediately to the east of Firdausi. (vii) Exactly three of the persons sit between Elangovan and Rukmangad. (viii) Nishikant sits immediately to the west of Rukmangad. (ix) Tarachandra sits immediately to the west of Zubeida. (x) Chintamani and Elangovan both face a direction opposite to the direction faced by Abhilasha.
