Statement : The number of counterfeit notes detected at the currency chest of a bank has risen sharply during the last two quarters, and in the greater part of those cases the notes are found to have been received across the counters of the branches attached to the chest and remitted to the chest along with the day's collections. Courses of action : I. The bank should stop receiving cash across the counters of all the branches attached to the chest. II. The bank should install note-sorting machines of the prescribed standard at every branch attached to the chest, so that the notes received are examined before they are taken in. III. The bank should train the counter sta of those branches afresh in the detection of counterfeit notes and in the procedure to be followed when such a note is detected.
