A domestic scheduled commercial bank is reviewing its priority sector position for the quarter, and nds that while its total agricultural advances are comfortably placed against the overall agriculture target, the sub-target prescribed within that target for lending to small and marginal farmers is short by a wide margin. The controlling o ce has asked every rural branch to state what proportion of adjusted net bank credit, or of the credit equivalent of o -balance sheet exposure whichever is higher, it must reach on this count by March 2017, so that branch-wise targets may be issued. The circular cautions the branches that the gure asked for is the sub-target for small and marginal farmers alone and is not to be confused with the overall agriculture target, which is a much larger percentage, nor with the milestone that applied a year earlier, which was one percentage point lower.
