A micro irrigation proposal for a banana block has been received, and the eld o cer must satisfy himself of the claim in the project report that the drip system will pay for itself out of the water it saves. The report compares the proportion of the water actually delivered to the eld that is taken up and used nancial case on the last of the three gures, which is the highest of them because the water is applied by the crop under a surface method, under a sprinkler and under a drip system, and rests its whole drop by drop into the root zone alone. The o cer notes that under the drip system there is no conveyance loss in eld channels, no deep percolation beyond the wetted bulb and very little evaporation from a soil surface that is never wetted between the rows, so that the e ciency claimed is far above that of any surface method.
