You are to solve both the equations and to mark the answer which states the relation that holds between x and y. The relation marked must hold for every value of x taken against every value of y. Where the two equations yield one and the same value, that is to say x = y, and equally where no relation whatever can be established between x and y, the answer to be marked is (E); the answers (C) and (D) are to be marked only where the relation holds throughout without x and y being equal in every comparison.
