ibps-so 2016 · Question 183 of 394

The two applications that Chandrabhaga Urban Bank has commissioned this quarter make opposite demands of the transport layer. The rst carries the day's clearing le to the service branch: not one byte may be lost, reordered or duplicated, and it does not matter if delivery takes a few seconds longer on account of a retransmission. The second carries the live audio of the training broadcast: a sample that arrives late is worthless, and the retransmission of a lost sample would only disturb the playout of the samples that follow it. The correct statement of the two transport protocols is that:

  1. ATCP is connectionless and UDP connection-oriented, which is why the clearing le must be carried over UDP and the broadcast over TCP
  2. BBoth are connection-oriented, TCP di ering from UDP only in that its header is the larger of the two
  3. CTCP is connection-oriented and o ers a reliable, ordered byte stream with acknowledgement, retransmission, ow control and congestion control, its header being at least 20 bytes; UDP is connectionless and o ers none of these, its header being a xed 8 bytes carrying only the two ports, the length and the checksumCorrect
  4. DUDP guarantees delivery but not order, whereas TCP guarantees order but not delivery, so that either would serve for the clearing le
  5. ETCP performs ow control and UDP performs congestion control, so that the broadcast is protected against a slow receiver and the clearing le against a congested network Directions (Q186–Q195) : Each of the sentences given below has been divided into four parts, marked (A), (B), (C) and (D). One of the four parts may contain an error. Find out that part and mark its letter as your answer. If the sentence is free from error, mark (E), that is, 'No error', as your answer. The faults, where any exist, are faults of construction and not of spelling or of punctuation.

Answer: C. TCP is connection-oriented and o ers a reliable, ordered byte stream with acknowledgement, retransmission, ow control and congestion control, its header being at least 20 bytes; UDP is connectionless…
