Two rounds of testing preceded the release of the cheque-return module. In the rst, the module was exercised at the bank's own development centre by a team drawn from the systems department and the methods cell, working from scripted cases, with the developers present in the room to observe the failures and correct them as they arose. In the second, the module was placed at eleven branches and used upon live work by the branch sta , with no developer present and no script; the branches recorded whatever went wrong and reported it back at the end of each week.
