ibps-rrb-os1 2024 · Question 139 of 270

'Anuj' and 'Bhanu' start walking towards each other from point 'P' and 'Q', respectively. 'Anuj' is walking at 4 m/s and 'Bhanu' is walking at 7m/s. If distance between 'Anuj' and 'Bhanu' is 60 metres and they're travelling back and forth between 'P' and 'Q', then find the total distance covered by 'Bhanu' by the time he meets 'Anuj' for the third time given that distance covered by 'Anuj' in that time is (2a/11)metres.

Speed, Time & Distance

  1. A{(600 + a) /11}
  2. B{(780 + a) /11}
  3. C{(990 + a) /11}
  4. D{(900 + a) /11}Correct
  5. ENone of these

Answer: D. {(900 + a) /11}

Explanation

ATQ, By the time 'Anuj' and 'Bhanu' meet for the first time, total distance covered by them would be 60 metres i.e., total distance between point 'P' and point 'Q'. After that, 'Anuj' and 'Bhanu' will reach points 'Q' and 'P' respectively, covering a total of 120 metres. By the time 'Anuj' and 'Bhanu' meet for the third time, total they would've covered 60 X 3 = 180 metres. We know that when time is constant, ratio of distance covered = ratio of speeds So, distance covered by 'Anuj' out of the total = 180 X (4/11) = (720/11) metres Or, (2a/11) = (720/11) Or, a = (720/2) = 360 Distance covered by 'Bhanu' = 180 X (7/11) = (1260/11) metres = {(900 + a) /11}
