ibps-rrb-os1 2024 · Question 131 of 270

Ajay goes to a grocery store with a certain amount of money. He can buy 80 apples or 40 bananas with the money he has. However, he decides to save 5% of the amount for snacks and buys 10 bananas and some apples. Find the percentage of apples he can now purchase out of the initial number of apples he could have bought.

Percentage

  1. A40%
  2. B60%
  3. C70%Correct
  4. D45%
  5. ENone of these

Answer: C. 70%

Explanation

ATQ Let the amount of money with Ajay be Rs. '200a' So, the price of 1 apple = (200/80) = Rs. '2.5a' Also, the price of 1 banana = (200/40) = Rs. '5a' ATQ; Amount retained for snacks = 0.05 X 200a = Rs. '10a' Price of 10 bananas = 10 X 5a = Rs. '50a' Remaining amount = 200a -10a -50a = Rs. '140a' So, number of apples he can purchase now = (140a/2.5a) = 56 Therefore, required percent = (56/80) X 100 = 70%
