Answer: A. 15 km/hr

Explanation

15 km/hr Speed of boat in still water = x kmph ; Speed of current = y kmph Rate downstream = (x + y) kmph (x + y) – (x – y) = 6 ⇒ 2y = 6 ⇒ y = 3 kmph ∴ Rate downstream of boat kmph 18 4 72 = = ∴ x + y = 18 ⇒ x + 3 = 18 ⇒ x = 18 – 3 = 15 kmph
