Only 3 people are standing to the left of Q.

Data Sufficiency

  1. AOnly I is sufficient
  2. BOnly I and II are sufficient
  3. COnly I and III are sufficient
  4. DOnly II and III are sufficient
  5. EAll the statements are requiredCorrect

Answer: E. All the statements are required

Explanation

From statement I: There are 5 people standing between P and R. Exact position of P and R cannot be determined here. Therefore, statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question. On combining I and II: R is standing eleventh to the right of Q. Since the exact position of Q is not clear from statement II, we cannot determine the position of P and R. Therefore, statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question. On combining I and III: Only 3 people are standing to the left of Q. Therefore, statements I and III together are not sufficient to answer the question. On combining II and III: As nothing is mentioned about P in both the statements, we cannot determine the position of P. Therefore, statements II and III together are not sufficient to answer the question. On combining I, II and III: So, position of P is 12th from the right. Hence, all the statements are required to answer the question.
