In the following question, two equations are given. You have to solve both the equations and find the relation between 'x' and 'y' and mark the correct answer. A. x² – 36x + 324 = 0. B. y² – 42y + 441 = 0.

  5. Eif x = y or the relationship cannot be established.

Answer: C. if x < y

Explanation

First equation: x² – 36x + 324 = 0 ⇒ x² – 18x – 18x + 324 = 0 ⇒ x(x – 18) – 18(x – 18) = 0 ⇒ x = 18. Second equation: y² – 42y + 441 = 0 ⇒ y² – 21y – 21y + 441 = 0 ⇒ y(y – 21) – 21(y – 21) = 0 ⇒ y = 21. ⇒ x = 18, y = 21. ∴ x < y.
